Relax. Renew. Restore.

Modalities that may be incorporated into your Bodywork session

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. There are many types of Deep Tissue Massage. The common goal of these therapies is to break up adhesions and fascial restrictions to decrease pain and increase range of motion and ease of movement. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness may occur after the treatment however this usually dissipates within 24 hours.

Oncology Massage - Massage for People Living with Cancer
Oncology massage is the modification of existing massage therapy techniques in order to safely work with complications of cancer and cancer treatment.  Oncology massage may be appropriate for anyone who has received treatment for cancer, those in recovery and those in survivorship. Clinical assessments and adaptations to the massage session for someone living with cancer or with a history of cancer treatment are critical to providing a safe, comfortable and relaxing massage. Benefits of oncology massage may include deep relaxation, reduced stress, improved sleep, eased constipation, increased alertness and mental clarity, reduced anxiety, less nausea and reduced pain.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), sometimes called manual lymphatic therapy, uses light touch to move excess lymph and fluid out of the tissues and back into the lymphatic vessels. Often referred to as a type of massage, MLD is very different from traditional forms of massage that rely on deep and rigorous pressure. MLD is much gentler and should feel as if the skin is being brushed, not rubbed or kneaded. MLD is a useful therapy for treating uncomplicated primary and secondary lymphedema and post-surgical edema.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.

Sports Massage
Sports Massage is designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage can enhance performance and may prolong a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pain and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.

Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines lotion or oils with an array of strokes such as effleurage (gliding), petrissage (kneading), rolling, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy that evaluates and enhances the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, otherwise known as the craniosacral system. Using a soft touch, the therapist releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST may be used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that promotes healing, stress reduction and relaxation. The treatment utilizes a gentle laying on of hands based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain. For more information about Reiki, visit www.reiki.org
